I had 4 early miscarriages from June 2008 to January 2009. We could get pregnant very easily, about every other month, but the baby would not thrive and I would lose it at about 6 weeks. I went to a fertility specialist who did everything western medicine had to offer--
- tests for thrombophilia, which came back normal, but they had me try Lovenox anyway
- genetic testing--male & female karyotyping, also came back normal
- they took a culture of my uterus to detect infection--no infection, it was normal
- treatment with antibiotics just in case I had an infection they couldn't detect (15 days of Levaquin)
- I used progesterone 200mg vaginally following ovulation and during pregnancy --didn't help
- they did an x-ray of my uterus (hysterosalpingogram) and then a scope of the uterus--also normal
Finally, on February 3 2009, they said there is nothing more we can do--no more tests to run or treatments to offer. So, on the way home from that sad appointment, my husband, a Taoist, who studied Chinese culture and speaks a little Mandarin suggested that I try Acupuncture. If not for him, I probably never would have even thought to try acupuncture. We had nothing to lose and everything to gain, so I immediately said yes! I went home and started surfing the internet for Fertility Acupuncturists. I was affraid of going to some quack who was going to take my money and not really know what they were doing. They ranged in price from $80-125 per session, and No my insurance did not cover it. But, that was a lot less than I had spent on my OB/GYN and all those tests!
So, I decided on Dr. Jinny Yoon. She is an M.D. who studied Acupuncture in China for her Certified Physician Acupuncture license. I was impressed with her credentials --A western medicine doctor and an Acupuncturist! It doesn't get much better than that, and she was close to my house to boot! She is wonderful; she treats the whole person. I began my acupuncture immediately. And I delivered a perfect beautiful baby boy, Wyatt, on 11/23/09 just before thanksgiving. And for the first time in a long time I was truly thankful.
My husband and I want a girl next, so I will be back to Dr. Yoon in about a year to do this again!
Thank you,
Tara F., Wyatt's Mom!
